My name is Angie Crellin. I've studied classical piano for more than 30 years. I know firsthand the joy that comes from playing the piano, and I would like to share with you the benefits of music for children.

When I thought the time was right for my oldest daughter to start playing piano, I began my search for the right preschool piano programs. I visited my local music store and purchased several of the most popular beginning piano books. My daughter was so excited about learning to play piano and we got started right away.

But the excitement didn't last long. She quickly lost interest in the first book, and then another, and another. I decided to give it some time. I tried again several months later, but she didn't want to go near the piano. The girl I had video taped joyfully playing her own "compositions" since she was two had lost all interest in learning to play the piano.

No matter how much I wanted to see my child playing piano, I decided then I couldn't force my interests on her and that the piano just wasn't her thing. Now I know I just didn't have a piano teaching method that gave her an instant sense of accomplishment and the motivation to continue.

A few years later, my preschool son started showing an interest in playing the piano. I certainly didn't want a repeat of the disaster my daughter and I went through, but I didn't know where to turn.

I considered several group classes and private piano teachers in the area, but they were all using those dreaded beginner piano books I had purchased for my daughter.
