What people are saying

"Thank you for developing such an easy and fun program for my preschooler to get started learning the piano, and at the same time giving his self-confidence a boost. He is so proud in fact, that he asks anyone who walks through our front door to listen to him play a song."
Brandi Peterson, Mother of Dylan, Age 4

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really teach my child piano if I don’t have any musical background?

Yes, you can with this piano teaching method! The musical concepts are broken down into very small steps in the teacher’s guide.  The beginner piano songs in the music book give your child an opportunity to practice the concepts taught by each of the preschool piano lessons.  The kids have so much fun playing songs they recognize, they don’t even realize they are applying the lesson you taught.  Even if you don’t have any musical background at all, you can easily teach your child beginning piano with this program.  You might even learn something yourself.

Do these preschool music activities work for older kids?

The Piano for Preschoolers beginning piano lessons teach what a child would learn in 6-12 months of a group piano class or private piano lessons.  With this method, a child learns rhythm, counting aloud, finger numbers, finger position, and reading music (including the names of the notes).  The familiar songs in the beginner piano book give a child the opportunity to practice these musical concepts. The 17 songs include Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Old MacDonald, Ten Little Indians, etc.  A seven or eight-year-old child will move much quicker through the preschool piano lessons than a three-year-old.  An older child will be very familiar with the songs in the music book.  A caring parent or grandparent is the best judge whether these beginning piano songs will motivate an older child.  It really is an individual thing.

How do the children transition from colored notes to regular notes?

The last couple of beginner piano songs in the music book introduce notes written in black and white.  Remember, throughout the course children read traditional music notes written on a traditional music staff.  The color coding is used as a guide to the correct key on the piano or keyboard.  By the time your child gets to these songs, he should be able to transition easily.  If your child masters the preschool piano lessons that cover which note is written in which line or space, he should have no problem transitioning.  The concepts taught in each lesson of the teacher’s guide build upon each other so your child will be ready to read music written in black and white by the time he gets to these lessons.

Do these preschool music activities work with any piano or keyboard?

The Piano for Preschoolers beginner piano course comes with two color strips.  One color strip fits a piano or a keyboard with full-size keys.  The other color strip fits a keyboard with smaller keys.  Whether you already have a piano in your home, purchase a keyboard elsewhere, or receive our gift package that includes the Casio keyboard we’ve chosen, the color strips will fit.

What is the next step after a child completes these beginning piano lessons?

A child who masters the concepts in the beginner piano lessons will be well prepared for further piano study.  You may choose to continue teaching your child how to play the piano at home with music books or beginner piano sheet music available at your local music store. Or you may prefer to find a private piano teacher.  Regardless, your child will have progressed beyond the boring beginning piano music that asks children to play middle C over and over again.  The teachers who wouldn’t teach your child piano at an early age will be impressed with what he/she knows.  Your child will be able to play from beginning piano books at the music store with fun songs that will keep him engaged.  Whether your child continues to play the piano or not, the exposure to preschool music lessons will give him/her academic advantages down the road.  There are numerous benefits of music education for children.

Piano for Preschoolers plans to release a more advanced course for children who have mastered the concepts in our beginning piano lessons.  Meanwhile, the holiday songbook and sacred songs book give kids even more opportunities to practice the concepts taught in the beginning piano course.

How quickly should we move through the piano course?

How quickly you move through the course depends on your child.  It is perfectly fine to spend 5-10 minutes at a time practicing the musical concepts presented in the teacher’s manual.  Other children may want to play the piano for up to half an hour.  Try to get your child to practice new concepts and play new songs before playing the kids piano songs he has mastered.  That way you’re always making progress.  Remember to keep it fun.  Introduce new songs and new concepts when your child is ready for them.  You will be the best judge when your child is ready to move forward.
